Following an approximate 30 minute steam from port, your group of up to 12 passengers will be at the fishing grounds and can experience fishing the traditional Chatham Islands way using hand lines. Upon return to port, guests will experience the technique of filleting their catch and will each get to take home a share of their catch. We guarantee that fish will be caught on the day. Blue cod and groper are the most abundant fish to be caught.

EnquireLeave for Pitt Island and partake in some fishing along the way. Then steam around Pitt Island exploring the coastline and the rare birds who live along it. Stop for lunch and a cuppa in one of the sheltered bays. Guests provide their own lunch and drinks, however they can choose to have their catch for the day BBQ for lunch by our crew while taking in the stunning scenery, or trying their hand at another fishing opportunity as they wait for their lunch to cook. Afterwards we will continue around the Island and if weather permits, stop at Flowerpot Bay where passengers can disembark and walk the beach before returning to the vessel and heading back to the Chathams to complete the journey. You’ll see seals, and seabirds in abundance, catch blue cod or groper along the way. All whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Island that is the first inhabited place in the world to see the sun rising each day. This trip takes 7-8 hours.

EnquireThis is for the more experienced sea farer. Experience a day in the life of a commercial fisherman. Learn first hand the art of cray or blue cod fishing. You will leave port early in the morning (approximately 4.30am - 5am) and observe the fishermen at work for the day. You will need sturdy sea legs, gumboots, wet weather gear, a packed lunch, a drink bottle and your camera! We can take up to two passengers per trip for this experience.

We can work in with other tourist attraction providers to arrange things such as morning tea on Pitt Island, perhaps an overnight stay with a local farming family, or a day tour on Island where a local will take you for a tour of Pitt Island and deliver you back to our vessel to return back to Chathams. Please just ask and we will do the very best we can to ensure your experience with us is an enjoyable one that is catered specifically for your charter group.
